During the next few years, HR / employee benefits professions will see massive changes to the industry, especially in terms of the adoption of technology. SaaS platforms are quickly entering mainstream use after years of being used exclusively by major enterprise companies. It is crucial that professionals understand exactly why these types of technology exist and how they can leverage technology to their benefit. It is key that HR professionals realize SaaS platforms should be seen as a tool to augment, not replace, their role.

Summary of learning objectives:

  • The history of SaaS. Dominant market forces such as competition, commission compression, employer demands and the growing millennial population.  Only 1% of the 6M SMBs have made the transition but experts predict tsunami level conversion rates in the next 2-5 years.  Understanding 'why' is critical to positioning yourself for the transition.
  •  Eligibility management and considerations.  What are the academic components and why it is important for agents to take this into consideration during the early planning phases of their recommendations about employee contributions strategies, offerings by geographic location, impact of payroll cycles and other practical elements impacting the delivery of SaaS that previously were not important in a paper based world.
  •  Scaling SaaS implementations across an entire book of business.  Implementation strategies for 5 employee groups are vastly different than for a 20, 50 or 100 employee groups and why it is important to consider this in the ROI calculations for both your agency AND your client.  Just as Delta Airlines has 747s and commuter planes, agents should have '747' and 'commuter' style to deliver 'best in class' solutions while effectively managing agency resources.  Proper employee training plays a critical role in success and reduces dependence on outside resources.

Coach the Coach- what supervisors really need to coach performance

The Millennials, the generation of workers born between 1980 and 2000 now make up the largest percentage (36%) of employees in the workforce. As featured in a CBS 60-Minutes interview with Morley Safer—best-selling author Dr. Bob Nelson, shares his insights on this latest generation and how members of that generation are reshaping work environments across the country. These 90 million individuals are unique from any previous generation, especially in their technical abilities, attitudes, outlook and expectations of work and, as such, companies are adjusting to meet the expressed needs of this generation. Failure to do so will significantly limit a company's ability to hire these younger workers at a time when organizations will already be experiencing a shortfall of qualified candidates needed to replace the 70 million retiring Baby Boomers (10,000 per day) in the decade ahead.  Success in adapting to this new breed of worker will allow organizations to access and leverage the potential of the younger generation in a way that will create a significant competitive advantage for the company in achieving its mission. 

This generation of workers with the skills and aptitudes that every employer will need are not interested in "paying their dues" and conforming to fit the expectations of them by their employers, but rather will cause companies to reassess and strategically realign all aspects of the employment contract to wrap around the life experiences and expectations unique to this generation.  The subsequent changes will affect all workers -- even those not a part of this generation -- as work rules about how work gets done (eg, telecommuting/working hours, increased autonomy/flexibility, group processes/collaboration, enhanced efficiencies via technology, world perspectives and social issues, etc) will become permanently redefined.  In this session, Dr. Nelson will share positive, practical strategies to accommodate the predominant shift in worker demographics, the assets and liabilities this generation brings to the workplace and show managers and executives (most of whom are Baby Boomers) how to strategically adapt to and align with the needs and expectations of these younger workers.  Topics covered will include:
