Press Release: Fall HR/Training/Contact Center Recap- Austin, TX

By Ericka Howard | Product Manager, Digital Media and Events

We had a great time in Austin, Texas at our HR & Employee Benefits Summit, Training & Development Summit, and Contact Center & Customer Service Summit! These joint events were held at the Hyatt Regency Austin on November 11 to 13, 2018, and while the weather outside was slightly chilly, inside things were heating up with great connections between our delegates and solution providers.

Sunday night kicked off with a pre-event cocktail reception, where those who were either local or had arrived earlier that day could mingle and network with fellow event attendees and get excited for the next two days. The following morning, Pete Smith, author of Dare to Matter: Choosing an Untuck and Unapologetic Life of Significance, kicked off the day with his keynote on the six key ways to incorporate significance into both our personal and professional lives.

The day continued with the true heart of these Forum events- the one-on-one meetings between company executives and solution providers. We had 26 solution providers present, and 59 company executives from such companies as Hulu, Texas Roadhouse, New York Life, Southwest Airlines, Honeywell, The Salvation Army, Quest, and Performance Foodservice, just to name a few.

Throughout the event, there were also 13 various HR, Training, and Contact Center workshops in addition to the one-on-one meetings. These provided the opportunity for delegate executives to learn more about a given topic within that niche, learn best practices and tips, and get answers to some of their burning questions.

Some of the workshop sessions included:

-          Building Senior Leadership Teams, which targeted the three leadership competencies organizations need to cultivate to be ready for a fast-moving future.

-          You Don’t Know, What You Don’t Know, Until You Know focused the difficulties HR personnel face staying up to date on HR compliance issues.

-          How to Attract, Manage, and Engage the Millennial Workforce, which targeted how to manage and retain a generation of employees that are often characterized as impatient and entitled.

-          What if Everything You Know About Personality Styles Training is Wrong, a discussion on DISC training, and how to refocus it from awareness to results

-          KPI: Strength or Weakness, provided information on how to know if you’re measuring the right KPI, how to determine whether the goals appropriate, and how the future will shape how these are measured.

-          Authentication and Security at the Speed of Conversation, focused on how to build a voice identify platform that not only authenticates customers and protects from fraud, but also allows the building of an all new customer experience.

-          Resolving the Retention Riddle, focused on the most common strategies for attrition, what key things those strategies are missing, and how to take a holistic approach to get a better handle on controlling attrition.

Aside from the all-important meetings and educational workshops, there was also lots of general networking and fun to be had! On the night of day 1 at the Forum Events is the staple Casino Night, which included a cocktail reception, full catered dinner (and dessert!) followed by casino games.

Day 2 closed the event with additional meetings and workshops and a prize drawing for all participants.

According to our post-event survey, we had extremely positive feedback from our attendees:

“The summit was a refreshing take on finding solutions & vendors who could be a partner.”

Forum Events Confirms Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans for the Training & Development Summit and HR & Employee Benefits Summit

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Training & Development Summit and HR & Employee Benefits Summit will take place at the Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans on September 14th and 15th, 2015. Senior-level HR and training executives will meet at the elite venue just steps from Bourbon Street and the French Quarter for the appointment-based event featuring one-on-one meetings, seminars by world-class speakers, and entertaining networking activities.

As part of Forum Events’ complimentary registration, executives receive free overnight accommodation at the prestigious Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans, all-inclusive dining and refreshments, and a personalized event itinerary.

This historic hotel is set in the 1908 Beaux Arts Maison Blanche building. It features traditional Southern ambiance with an interior that reflects the graciousness of antebellum mansions. With live entertainment, exquisite accommodations, and a five-star rating, this is the ideal setting for executives to comfortably network, learn and connect.

The Training & Development Summit and HR & Employee Benefit Summit are specifically designed for C-suite executives who are actively sourcing new solutions and services in the HR, employee benefits and training industries. Executive attendees are introduced to solution providers who specialize in their upcoming projects during one-on-one, pre-arranged appointments. The events also incorporate 45-minute seminars led by industry leaders in an open-discussion format and networking meals and after-hour activities.

Forum Events is the most effective method for busy executives to source new solution providers and learn about breakthrough services in their industry – 98 percent of attendees report a forum is a “better way to source new suppliers than a trade show,” and 95 percent say they have saved time sourcing and meeting new buyers at a Forum. Using a unique matching software, Forum Events connects executives with sponsors based on information they have provided. Unlike a traditional trade show, attendees are able to speak privately with experts about their companies and develop a plan of action in a no ‘hard-sell’ environment.

Forum Events originated in the United Kingdom in 1996. They have since expanded to the United States to headquarters in Sarasota, FL. The company has hosted more than 250 successful appointment-based events across ten different industries.

Kicking Off 2015 With A Successful Summit

The first HR & Employee Benefits Summit of 2015 is marked as another great success. Testimonials continue to pour in following the summit which took place in Los Angeles, California last month with more than 70 registered delegates including Activision Blizzard, Inc., ArcelorMittal, Kimpton Hotels, MGM Resorts International, Panasonic Avionics Corporation, Panda Restaurant Group, Technicolor, The Walt Disney Company and Wells Fargo in attendance.

Extracurricular networking activities were also a fun, productive way for attendees to network and connect! During the evening gala dinner and casino night, both sponsors and delegates met over meals and again at roulette tables for a more laidback experience.Following registration on day one, the main ballroom where one-on-one meetings were held was thriving, with Child Development, Inc. saying “[It’s] nice to have one-on-one conversations about the products/services and our needs.” While each attendee was given a personalized itinerary, their meetings were separated by industry seminars and networking break outs. During the time between meetings, attendees also browsed a sponsor lounge which is designed for sponsors to showcase their services, “Having exposure and having the opportunity to gain a better understanding of what is not there [in my current practices] is very helpful,” said one director of The Walt Disney Company.

The HR & Employee Benefits Summit seminar program was packed with industry hot topics, including a seminar led by author of Just Listen, Mark Goulston, MD and CEO of The Goulston Group and Goulston Group Productions. An interactive favorite led by Alan Fine, a renowned trainer, speaker and performance expert, was “You Already Know How to be Great,” which emphasized the power of focus in numerous partner activities. Entire classrooms left each seminar with a greater understanding of their field and how to improve.

“I found the event staff to be fabulous and accommodating. The location was also a great choice and the event structure, simply genius!” said Kimpton Hotels. The Summit took place at the Pacific Palms Resort, a recognized two-championship golf resort which was the perfect blend of luxury and outdoors aesthetics!

Attendees left the Summit enlightened, refreshed and prepared to tackle upcoming goals!

“This event was amazing and I am grateful we had the opportunity to participate!” - National CORE.

'Tis the Season: Holiday Season Productivity Tips

We are officially in the midst of the holiday season, which means that the art of balancing the stress of gift giving and entertaining with life at the office is being tested. According to the American Management Association, about two-thirds of 600 full-time employees surveyed said they experienced stress during the holiday season. 44 percent of executives similarly say productivity decreases during the holiday season. Workplace consultant Anne Grady says that employee frustration doesn’t come from having too much to do, but rather from unclear expectations. So how can we balance work and play this holiday season? Here are just a few tips:

1. Know and Balance Your Stressors

One of the biggest problems with the holidays is an overload of personal to-do lists interfering with the growing office to-do list. If you’re having a panic moment, regroup and make a list of what takes priority. Dedicate specific times to get your to-do list done and keep your work and personal list separate.

2. Get Flexible At Work

Employers can help boost productivity during work hours by compromising. Understanding the needs of employees can create a better environment and boost numbers over the holiday season. Managers should consider easing up on restrictions during this time of the year, offering incentives for good work and should the question arise – beware of opportunities to work from home. While groveling employees may be a temporary hassle, it’s worth it to keep customers happy.

3. Coordinate Calendars

This is optimal time for PTO. Beware that you don’t cut yourself short in the office by being too vacation happy. Make sure that calendars are aligned and the team understands the needs of the workplace in terms of absences and vacation days. Keep a shared calendar so that if there are any discrepancies – you don’t corner yourself too late.

4. Don’t obsess about hours

You’ve set a plan, you’ve set time off dates, and you’re giving your employees some leg room. Don’t stress about employees taking an extended lunch break or coming in a few minutes late, just be aware of their deadlines and work. If employees are not getting their work done, regardless of their time in the office, you will know and be able to act accordingly.

5. Relax!

Tensions in the office this season will show in your customer appreciation. Relax and remember now is the time to be grateful and enjoy your company and work friends. Setting a healthy environment is key to a positive holiday season.

Chicago Summit Success!

XpertHR meets with a delegate attendee from
DePaul University at the Chicago HR &
Employee Benefits Summit.

The HR & Employee Benefits Summit successfully ran alongside the Training & Development Summit this July in Chicago, IL. We are pleased to announce the numerous testimonials we have received from the combined events and have heard of multiple new business deals that have since arisen.

HR & Employee Benefits executives along with Training & Development directors arrived for breakfast and registration in the ballroom of the Hilton in Downtown Chicago.  Instantly – the Forum team knew the attendees would be a pleasure to work with as all the guests were eager to begin networking.

Following a short but sweet opening presentation – the ballroom was buzzing with introductions as delegates met one-on-one with solution providers! These meetings continued throughout the day, separated by our healthier lunch menu and multiple coffee breaks – all of which acted as additional casual networking opportunities.

Vendors & Delegates mingle at the pre-
dinner
drinks reception before the Gala dinner
& Casino
night kicked off.

That evening, attendees met for a cocktail reception before heading to a grand Gala dinner. The evening  was electric as everyone had already made formal introductions and were quickly on the way to becoming friends! Groups mingled at the reception and the party continued through to the next wild event: Casino night.

Guests enjoyed an open bar throughout the evening as many laughs were shared around poker and roulette tables. The dealers joined in, giving insight and creating an electric atmosphere as three lucky winners duked it out to win several bottles of wine.

The next day – attendees regrouped for another hot breakfast before heading straight to additional meetings. By this time – the majority of attendees have met so the atmosphere blossoms and meetings become especially lively.

The event closes at mid-day and is followed by one final lunch. Here, attendees make their final connections before heading home – all sharing the same intimate experience and willing to reconnect with vendors from the event.

Are Employees Reaping the Benefits? Paternity Leave? P.T.O.?

Father's Day has just passed and for many new dads, it means less time spent with Junior, and more time spent at a desk. The economic pressure of a child can leave households scrambling for financial support, sending one of the parents back to work sooner than later. A recent study reports that dads aren't taking the allotted time to meet their newborn for that reason. It goes beyond money, too. Some are now reporting that workplace stigma is partially to blame for fathers returning to work hastily. A new trend is arising though, steered by the forward-thinking, tech-companies of Silicon Valley - they're saying daddy days are just as important as maternity leave.

A study by Boston College’s Center for Work and Family reveals the economic repercussions of taking time off – even after child birth! The study finds 86 percent of male employees would not use paternity leave or parental leave unless they were paid at least 70 percent of their salaries.

The Family and Medical leave act allows US fathers to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave if they have been in their jobs for 12 months, however paid leave is at the discretion of employers.Even more surprising, just 14 percent of American employers offer paid leave for new dads - mainly new technology companies.

While working fathers say they want to take the full allotted time to be with their newborn and family, the majority say they would realistically take a maximum of two weeks off. Sixty-four percent of dads blame this on workplace stigma towards men and paternity leave. Boston College’s Center Executive Director, Brad Harrington, says “There is still the expectation in many minds that taking more than a week would not be appropriate.”
